Mt. Elbert Memory Sketch

My brother and I climbed Mt. Elbert, Colorado's highest mountain in 1981. It was altitude training for climbing Pico de Orizaba Mexico's highest mountain. We got as far as the village of Orizaba at the base of the mountain. Our climbing gear didn't, it was stolen by baggage handlers in Vera Cruz. We waited two days in Orizaba and returned to Vera Cruz. This is a sketch of a view I remember from the summit, I especially remember the silvery white lakes shining in the sun to the southwest. Still fresh after 20+ years. This was done with an application called Artrage 2.0, it works on Mac or Windows and is totally free. Well worth the download some great results with some practice.

Pecan Tree on Old 82

This painting was done on location, or Plien Aire for a reporter from the St. Clair County Courier newspaper. It was 18 degrees, very cold. I had to cut the end of one of my paint tubes off with my pocket knife to get the paint out. The paint was like putty. Rocky Mountain National Park

Field Near the High School Status: Sold

Tried to do the Plein Aire thing, loaded my car with all my painting junk took my camera for good measure. Good thing I did, there was no place to safely park and paint this along highway 13. So I photographed it and painted it in my studio. This field was loaded with color, I couldn't believe the amount of color in it. The red area is sumac. Detail of Painting Roselle Court

Roselle Court, Nelson Atkins Museum of Art Kansas City Missouri, Acrylic on Panel, 6" X 7" Private Collection.

Roselle Court Nelson Atkins Museum of Art

In the center of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, is a courtyard done in the Moorish style. It used to be open air and few people ventured into it. A restaurant was built into it along with a roof. It is now a pleasant place to sit, have a bite to eat, visit with friends, and talk about art. I eventually cut or cropped this painting to focus on the women at the table.
 Originally Acrylic on Panel. 18" X 24"

Sketch for Alaska Painting

It has been hot lately and I haven't had much motivation to paint in the heat of my garage. I am wasting time too. I have been working on my computer doing digital sketches for possible paintings. I would sure like to be in the cool air of the mountains. This is a little larger than the Rockies, more like Denali. It's from my imagination that's why it's larger than life. Digital Image, Gimp.
