Roselle Court Nelson Atkins Museum of Art

In the center of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, is a courtyard done in the Moorish style. It used to be open air and few people ventured into it. A restaurant was built into it along with a roof. It is now a pleasant place to sit, have a bite to eat, visit with friends, and talk about art. I eventually cut or cropped this painting to focus on the women at the table.

It has been hot lately and I haven't had much motivation to paint in the heat of my garage. I am wasting time too. I have been working on my computer doing digital sketches for possible paintings. I would sure like to be in the cool air of the mountains. This is a little larger than the Rockies, more like Denali. It's from my imagination that's why it's larger than life. Digital Image, Gimp.

Neah Bay in the Rain, Washington State

My wife and I were driving to Neah Bay on our honeymoon in Washington State. I need not tell you it rains a lot in Washington State. The colors are subtle but I like compositions like this occasionally.

Blue House With Russet Cow at Evening

This came to me as I was lying in bed, deciding whether to get up, or lounge awhile. I saw clearly what colors to put in this to make it a good painting. I have been going to paint this for some time, but kind of put it on hold. I had taken a photo of this to use as a reference. You may say, especially you pleine aire guys, you use photos! Yes I do. I have done the sketching thing, the pleine aire thing, the memory thing. (I still use the memory thing) I like to use the toilet when ever I need to, grab a snack, or a soft drink. Bask in the air conditioning.

I have discovered that I like comfort and convenience. I don't like heat, bugs, fighting with light, (trying to find shade) the whole 9 yards. I take a photo of it. I enhance the things I liked about it. The finished work rarely looks like the photo anyway. I see color intensely. I paint color intensely. There are exceptions of course.

I use a free program called Artrage 2.0 to do sketches. I then paint from my sketch in Artrage. I don't always use Artrage. You may be saying to yourself, what I heard a guy say in an art gallery once, he was looking at an abstract painting, while standing next to me. He said; "I could have done that!" My reply was, "Yes, but you didn't". I think I'll put a deeper orange in the sky on the left, maybe make the lighter green around the house a little more on the orange side to compliment the blue.................

Bridget in Her Garden Status: Sold

My wife Bridget is an avid gardener, she literally paints with flowers. She is constantly weeding. I caught her at a point where she is trying to decide what to do next.

Rachel Fishing on Hogle Creek

Hogle Creek runs along the north eastern border of St. Clair County. It borders Benton County. This is my daughter Rachel fishing for Red Ear Sunfish. This painting was purchased by fellow artist Tom Trowbridge, of Blue Springs Missouri.

Ruby Beach, Washington State, a Work in Progress

Finally I found time to finish this. This is Ruby Beach, in my estimation one of the most scenic beaches in Washington State. my wife and I visited here on our Honeymoon

This is my so called studio. A retired out building/cattle barn. It serves as my summer studio. I deal with Mud Dauber Wasps in the daytime and moths and mosquitos attracted to my light at night. Fishing rods, gas and oil cans, and other assorted junk surround me as I work. I have an artist friend whose husband worked for Aramco Oil Company, her studio could be called a guest house. It has a kitchen, shower, the whole 9 yards. If only I could be discovered by a rich patron. Heh,heh,heh. Ahh, the romantic life of the artiste!

Tom and Huck Fishing

I painted this for an illustration of the story of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. I used it in a portfolio presentation to Hallmark Cards. I was devastated at the the time, I didn't get a job there, but in a way, I'm glad I didn't. My work is really not greeting card type stuff. I didn't know that then. It is done from my imagination. This painting is in the Lawrence Glavin Collection in Kansas City.
